Göteborgs Konsthall opens in Slakthuset in Gamlestaden with a solo exhibition by the internationally acclaimed Danish Korean artist Jane Jin Kaisen. This marks the first major presentation in Sweden.

On the volcanic island of Jeju Island, off the coast of South Korea, contemporary life is shaped by the surrounding nature and historical events. The exhibition Portal portrays a liminal state between what has been and what has not yet come into being, posing the question: what must we let go of, and what is vital to preserve for the future?

Through a precise and poetic visual language, Kaisen explores how experiences are shaped by place, memory, and history, drawing on personal, collective, and mythological narratives and rituals.

Portal presents a selection of the artist’s monumental video works alongside new productions, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Göteborgs Konsthall — in a new location.
