About the Relocation Project

Efforts to find new premises for Göteborgs Konsthall have been ongoing in various forms for decades. In 2022, the Cultural Affairs Committee decided that Göteborgs Konsthall would relocate to new premises in Slakthuset. Below is an overview timeline leading up to the opening of Göteborgs Konsthall in its new location.

Timeline

2026: Göteborgs Konsthall opens at Slakthuset.

2025: The relocation from Götaplatsen to Slakthuset begins.

2024: The Cultural Affairs Committee approves the leasing of a replacement venue for Göteborgs Konsthall in accordance with the administration’s official proposal.

2022: The Cultural Affairs Committee decides to move Göteborgs Konsthall to the Slakthuset area in Gamlestaden.

Area: Approximately 1742 square metres

Developer: Higab.

Operator: Göteborgs Konsthall, Department of Culture, City of Gothenburg

Architect for interior adaptation: SWECO

Original architect of Slakthuset: Otto Dymling (the building was inaugurated in 1905)
